When there’s a tough job to be done, the Ram 3500 has long been the go-to heavy-duty truck of choice for contractors, farmers, construction workers, and almost anyone who wears a hard hat. With its powerful engines and phenomenal towing and payload figures, the Ram 3500 is ready to drag the largest of vessels and the heaviest of loads to and across job sites.

If you’re looking for a Ram 3500 for sale, you should know about some of the advanced trailering technology you can get with this excellent full-size pickup. Trailering poses unique challenges, and driving with a tractor or trailer behind your vehicle is very different than driving without one. No matter how many years you’ve done it, it never quite gets easy.

Ram has smartly considered the real-life hurdles its drivers face every day when trailering, and they designed some impressive trailering technology to ease drivers' burdens. When you’re navigating traffic and busy job sites while also controlling a huge vessel behind your truck, you need extra eyes, ears, and mechanical muscle—and the Ram 3500 has it all. Here are the advanced trailering technology features we love to brag about in the 2024 Ram 3500...

Tow Mode Camera

It’s always important to know what’s happening behind your vehicle, but when you have a huge trailer hitched to your truck, that could be difficult to manage. That’s why we love the Tow mode camera option for the Ram 3500. It is a part of the digital rearview mirror, a cool feature that turns your rearview mirror from a regular mirror into an additional display screen for your rearview camera.

When using it, you can cycle through multiple views, and one of them is Tow mode. If you would like to use Tow mode, you will need to mount an auxiliary camera to the back of your trailer. This will connect to the digital rearview mirror and stream the live surveillance onto the mirror so you can see what is happening behind your trailer.

This can really come in handy when, for example, you realize you are slowing down traffic, and there is a pile of cars behind you. Seeing this in the camera will notify you that it is time to pull over or change lanes. If there is a coworker or friend who is supposed to be trailing you, using this camera lets you confirm that they are still behind you and didn’t lose you at that last turn-off. It's truly one of the best features of this Ram truck.

We always like to make sure to sit in the passenger seat next to potential buyers and show them all the things you can do with this camera. For example, you can adjust the tilt, zoom, pan, and brightness to improve the visibility to your preferences.

The Surround View Camera

The trailer-specific cameras don’t stop with the digital rearview mirror. Many drivers are familiar with the available 360-degree Surround View camera for the Ram 3500, which offers you views of the surroundings and the top of your vehicle when you are in reverse. It will display these images on the touchscreen along with active guidelines that show you the projected backup path of your truck based on the steering wheel position.

The cool thing is that you can also get a 360-degree Trailer Surround View camera, which will show you the surroundings and top of your trailer. Utilizing cameras mounted on either side mirror of your truck, this system shows you a view of the sides of your trailer, giving you the information you need when backing up.

You can also use the magnifying glass icon to increase the size of the views up to four times. You'll surely be aware of what is going on around your vessel with this intelligent camera system.

Trailer Status Updates

Just like you need to stay informed about the function and health of your truck, you also need to stay informed about the same of your trailer. The Ram 3500 offers several ways to monitor your trailer. First of all, there is a trailer tire pressure monitoring system, which will give you real-time tire pressure readings for as many as four different trailers.

You will see this information displayed on the 12.0-inch digital cluster display. A trailer light check system will also notify you if any of your trailer lights are not working. You can also check on the functionality of your trailer brakes. All of this information will be displayed on that 12.0-inch digital cluster display.

Reverse Steering Control

Backing up with a trailer in tow is never easy, but it’s a little easier with the trailer reverse steering control. When equipped with this feature, your truck will have a trailer steering knob, which you can use to control your trailer's direction when you back up.

This system will simultaneously control your steering wheel so that your truck and trailer are in alignment. When you need to back a trailer into a tight barn, port, or other slot, you don’t have room for error; you need to have total control over the trailer’s movements, and this system can help with that.

Auto-Level Rear Air Suspension

Hitching a trailer to your truck is nearly impossible when the two items are not at the exact same height. That is why we love the auto-level rear air suspension system. It has a bed-lowering mode, which lets you bring the rear suspension down to the height of your hook-up for hitching.

If you are hitching a trailer at night, you will appreciate the addition of the LED trailer hitch light. Built into the tailgate handle, it improves visibility in low light settings when attaching a trailer to your truck.
