Today, we want to publicly applaud Gary Townsend on his promotion to Service Manager here at Ruge’s Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram!

The Dutchess County native’s love for all things automotive actually started long before he was old enough to drive. Gary shared that he was just 14 when he built a vehicle with his Dad. He knew he had unlocked passion and potential, but had no idea he’d build a career that has spanned two decades!

Gary, tell us about your new role at Ruge’s.

As Service Manager, my job is to manage the technicians and advisors; I dispatch work, respond to questions and correspondence from customers and colleagues, put together purchase orders, review customer satisfaction surveys, and support our overall operations on the Service side of the business.

What is your favorite part of your work day?

I really enjoy working together with my team to hit our goals, and of course, it feels great to be able to make our customers happy.

 

In your opinion, what are the three most important characteristics of a strong leader in your industry?

Communication. We need to all clearly communicate with one another and with our customers for things to run smoothly.

 

Confidence. Anyone in a leadership position should have the ability to confidently make decisions and lead the team.

 

Accountability. Leaders need to hold team members (and themselves) accountable to responsibilities and expectations on a daily basis in order to be successful.

 

What are your goals for this position?

I hope to make our work environment even better all the time, and will give 100% every day, doing my best to meet and exceed expectations!

 

What is it like to work for a company that offers this kind of professional growth?

I am extremely grateful for the advancement opportunities that Ruge’s has provided me. In just 12 years, I went from being a technician to service advisor to assistant manager to this new role as service manager. The Ruge family is always very supportive of their employees, looking for ways to help us grow and develop whenever they can - and I plan to continue working for them for as many years as possible!

 

Any fun road trips planned this year?

I’m looking forward to going on vacation with my entire family this summer; we’ll rent a condo in Delaware and enjoy time together on the beach and the boardwalk.

 

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Usually riding my four-wheeler, playing with my kids, tinkering in the garage, and fixing cars for friends or family at home. And of course there’s always a lot of yard work to take care of!
