The 2020 Jeep Gladiator: Best-in-Class Mid-Sized Truck Towing Power
August 19 2019 - Ruge's CDJR
A red 2020 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon is shown from the side.

Mid-sized trucks can, too often, feel like a compromise. With smaller designs and smaller engines, many drivers look at them as underpowered.

The 2020 Jeep Gladiator is a truck designed to provide an alternative.

An all-new model fresh on the road, the Gladiator takes the best elements of Jeep's rugged SUV lineup and combines it with the hard-working power of a pickup truck.

Towing Power and Off-Road Prowess Rolled into One

At a glance, the Gladiator takes more than a few cues from the Jeep Wrangler. The similarities are more than skin deep. Much like the Wrangler, the Gladiator is built to take a beating with high ground clearance and feature options designed to bolster its performance on and off the road.

Key to its high performance is a pair of powerful engine options. These include a 285 horsepower V6 capable of 260 pounds-feet of torque. You'll also have access to a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6. Capable of 260 horsepower with 442 pounds-feet of torque, this robust powertrain can dish out a peak towing capacity of 7,650 pounds-feet of torque. That's best-in-class for the mid-sized segment.
